MASAGUARAL WILDLIFE REFUGE / MASAGUARAL, REFUGIO DE FAUNA (1x50)

Masaguaral is a private cattle ranch in the middle of Venezuela, in the high Llanos. Half a century ago its owner   took the decision to ban hunting and to share cattle farming with the protection of  the fauna in the area and it has been maintained so during decades. This makes Masaguaral a sort  of  open zoo where the wildlife flourishes without the threatening of man. Several stories are told in this documentary that guide us to the understanding of the environment. The first one is the breeding in captivity of the Orinoco Crocodile, hunted almost to extinction in the basin for its skin. The whole 18 months period process is shown, from the egg collection to the final release in the rivers of the basin. Many different interesting birds and mammals are presented in different  environments, showing unique behaviors in places such as the forest, the savanna and the marshes. Feeding habits, reproduction strategies, interaction among predators and prey and the breeding phases of several species are presented in outstanding photography with great field sounds recording. The life around water copses shows the interaction between birds and many mammals such as the giants rodents of the neotropic and the felines in a daily struggle to survive. The stories are all interrelated and dozens of species are shown in shots never seen before. All this with an interesting and attractive narration describing this unique animals paradise.

ANIMAL SURVIVAL / SUPERVIVENCIA ANIMAL (1x50)

To survive, animals must satisfy two essential requisites - food and reproduction.  These processes occur in the environment in which they have evolved and to which they have adapted. The adaptation takes millions of years and those species that are successful have developed both physical and behavioral tools that allow them to survive harmoniously with their environment and its inhabitants. Land, sea, air, fresh water, ponds, marshes, forests, savannas, these are the main environments where wild animals adapted through different strategies to live and prosper on planet earth. Blending with the surrounding, hideaways, withdrawals, dens, knifes and spurs, carapaces and shells, flying, diving, venoms, sounds, sense of smell, eyesight, songs and calls, socialization, symbiosis, night dwellers, a kaleidoscope of strategies that wild animals utilize to eat and not being eaten.  An outstanding collection of characteristics shown through hundreds of shots and animals photographed in the wild areas of the Orinoco-Amazon basin and the Caribbean Sea during a decade. Amazing close-ups and outstanding behaviors.
